About Us
The Stanford School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences (Stanford Earth) will become part of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability on September 1, 2022. The school will include two new flagship buildings and have a three-part structure: academic departments that will launch with about 90 existing faculty, including those from the School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences; interdisciplinary institutes to bridge areas of scholarship across the university; and a sustainability accelerator to drive policy and technology solutions. The Department of Earth System Science's (ESS) goal is to understand, predict, and respond to human-caused and natural environmental change at local to global scales. ESS includes a large and growing graduate student and postdoc community.
ESS is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance and Operations to join our team. This position will report to the Director of Finance and Operations (DFO).
Your Responsibilities may include*:
Supervise a team of Administrative Associates
Manage visitor appointments
Assist DFO with searches and appointment packages
Manage temporary and student employee hiring process
May develop and oversee budgets, manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting
Assist with process improvement
Assess training needs and may develop associated training
Review and analyze trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the department

To be successful in this position, you will need:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.

Physical Requirements
Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
