Department OverviewOHSU's Knight Cancer Institute is a large and complex department within the School of Medicine, whose mission is to develop excellence in cancer research and facilitate the translation of that research into improvements in cancer patient care, to provide world class cancer care to the residents of Oregon and Southwest Washington, and to make the incidence of cancer in these areas the lowest in the nation. The Knight Cancer Institute funds research, outreach, and clinical activities throughout all of OHSU and Oregon. The Knight Cancer Institute is also responsible for stewarding and providing financial oversight for OHSU Foundation's largest gifts to date, including the $1.0 billion dollar "Knight Challenge".
