Responsible for budget development and financial forecasts; maintains internal controls to monitor actuals against budget; responsible for ensuring compliance with all University budgeting and Finance processes and regulations. Prepare and monitor budgets and regular status reports; will periodically present reports with analysis to senior leaders. Research, analyze and summarize financial activities in all of CJR's accounts; oversees the reconciliation of those accounts. Prepare bank reconciliations, process purchase orders and expenditure corrections, oversee vendor maintenance, and other internal Columbia controls and systems.
Works closely with Principal Investigators, funders, and finance to prepare and review budget proposals, submissions and revisions. Prepare and manage budgets for fundraising proposals (logging in all such proposals in the RASCAL University system) and financial reports to funders. Develops and communicates monthly, quarterly, annul and multi-year budget analyses and reports as needed.
Manage CJR's accounts receivables and accounts payable; create, manage and reconcile invoices and vendor communications. Maintain a list of all consultants, PO and fund balances. Prepare advertising and editorial invoices as needed and keep track of payments and past dues. Prepare all supporting documentation for invoice, check request, and requisition submissions. Manage communications with vendors with regards to the vendor creation process, invoice collection and payment processing. Appropriately code all transactions by specific business purpose for accurate tracking.
Manage and maintain a system of internal/business controls (specifically in the areas of budgeting and finance) to ensure compliance with all University regulations. Will be responsible for creating and amending controls as necessary.
Serves as the point person for HR issues including, but not limited to, paid time off tracking and reporting, performance appraisals, effort reporting, hiring, and onboarding.
Plan and oversee the logistics of fundraising events, and board meetings, and researching potential donors.
Support the Publisher's work in advertising, membership, and other revenue producing operations. Specifically, oversee trafficking of ad materials; forward subscriber inquiries to CJR's membership vendor and/or troubleshoot persistent problems; etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required.
Minimum 3-5 years related experience.
Substantial amount of in-person work is required
Excellent writing and communication skills. Proficiency in Excel and budgeting. Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software. Familiarity with Columbia University's internal systems a plus, or at least ability to master new online systems with ease. Must be organized, creative and efficient, able to work successfully both individually and as part of a team.
