We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with demonstrated budget and financial experience to join our team of world-renowned global health experts. The Institute has an immediate opening for a full-time Program Manager to support Dr. Stephen Luby and the Luby Lab. Under the direction of Dr. Luby, you will work collaboratively with faculty and postdocs and a team of staff within the School of Medicine and the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment. The Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment is working toward a future in which societies meet people's needs for water, food, health and other vital services while sustaining the planet. The institute is housed in the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability focused on a unifying goal of creating a future in which humans and nature thrive together in concert and in perpetuity. The Luby Lab is a public health research laboratory that seeks strategic knowledge to improve health in communities. Our approach uses a framework outlining the stages of research that work progressively towards generating impact at scale. The Luby Lab is working to advance solutions across a broad array of public health problems including reducing air pollution from brick manufacturing in Bangladesh, reducing exposure to lead, advancing vaccine evaluations for typhoid and Nipah virus, and providing safe water to low-income communities while also preserving the environment.
The Luby Lab Program Manager (ASA1) will oversee the administration of the diverse activities of the Luby lab which includes 20 funded projects with an annual budget of approximately $2 million, engages over a dozen scientists in training and collaborates with units across Stanford including the Woods Institute, Freeman Spogli Institute, the Center for Innovation in Global Health and the King Center for Poverty and Development and partners in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Fiji, Liberia, and Pakistan. The Program Manager reports to Dr. Steve Luby. The research group is dynamic and constantly evolving and includes a full range of research engagement, teaching and broader outreach.
Specifically, the Luby Lab Program Manager will engage as follows:
Manage the preparation of budgets, including monitoring and approving expenditures, tracking overall funding, and communicating written reports between project funders and scientists. Will also perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.
Oversee the development of funding proposals including identifying the many steps and ensuring that pieces are developed accurately and timely. Will also take the lead to draft multiple sections of funding proposals and project reports.
Independently implement, administer and evaluate/improve day-to-day activities of the program such as overseeing the process of initiating new students and postdocs into the Luby Lab, coordinating input from Lab members to maintain the Luby Lab website, and developing plans for research dissemination. Execute tasks and objectives, making impactful recommendations to Dr. Luby regarding policy and programmatic improvements, as well as resource allocation (budget, time, etc.) to achieve the goals of the program.
Collect and analyze data, create reports, as well as review and explain trends to formulate and propose alternative solutions and/or recommendations that benefit the program. Will also analyze and interpret various policies to develop, revise and improve programmatic procedures.
Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the program including to external and internal stakeholders and constituencies.
Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, as well as planning and promoting events and/or conferences.
Supervise at least one program administrator.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
