Woodland Hill Montessori School seeks a full-time Director of Finance. The Director is responsible
for managing the financial and operational affairs of the school, including all accounting duties, within
the general outline established by the Head of School and/or the Board of Trustees. Qualified
candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, a CPA
license, and/or MBA as well as experience in the banking, financial services, and/or not-for-profit
field.
Additionally, preferred candidates will have not-for-profit or educational institutional experience in
addition to strong managerial and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities and Duties
The Director of Finance manages the School's resources in a prudent and careful manner consistent
with the mission and goals of the School. This is an on-premises position, and an excellent
opportunity for an individual with 5+ years of experience who is looking to work with a dynamic,
growing, Independent School in NY’s Capital District:
The Director’s principal areas of daily activity are:
? Provide school-wide strategic leadership, analysis, and management of finances and
operations.
? Oversee and manage all Business Office operations and personnel including budgeting and
accounting, financial modeling and analysis, tuition & accounts receivable, accounts payable,
payroll, risk management, insurance, and benefits.
? Prepare all financial reporting, including the development of the annual operating budget to
be approved by the Board of Trustees, monthly reports of operating results compared to the
budget, P&L Statements, Balance Sheet statements, and bank covenant compliance.
? Responsible for all tax payments and filings (Federal, State, and local) required by the
school, including annual Form 990 preparation and filing.
? Administer all employee benefit programs including health insurance, retirement, worker’s
compensation, life insurance, wellness programs, and other related plans.
? Establish financial, investment, and capital strategies that enhance the long-term value and
are consistent with the strategic priorities in conjunction with the Head of School and Finance
Committee.
? Stay up-to-date on government regulations affecting schools locally, regionally, and
nationally, such as those of the IRS, EEOC, OSHA, etc.
? Ensure that the school is in compliance with all local and state reporting requirements.
? Prepare for yearly audit, and coordinate with auditors.
? Support the Enrollment, Admissions, Marketing, and Development leadership with data and
analysis as requested.
? Analyze Building use and Technology systems to ensure safety and efficiency.
? Attend and participate in Board Meetings, Finance Committee, Investment Committee
meetings, including preparation of financial statements for board review.
? Present financial information and insight to faculty and staff, trustees, and parents.
? Manage purchasing requirements for the school and associated support programs.
? Provide analytical support and participate in Financial Aid decision process.
? Assist the HOS and Board in data analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making.
? Oversee the care and maintenance of the physical plant including budgeting for expected
capital expenditures and providing oversight to the building and maintenance staff.
? Work on other duties as assigned by Head of School and/or Board Treasurer.

? Strong managerial and interpersonal skills
? Ability to remain flexible and adapt to a changing work environment and work requirements is
critical in this role. This role requires a team player who is willing to roll up their sleeves and
get involved in additional aspects of school operations when needed.
? Prior experience working for or with not-for-profit organizations preferred.
? Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic work environment
? Knowledge of QuickBooks, payroll software, and other financial tools required.
? Must be fluent with Microsoft Suite of software tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with at least 5 years of
experience in an Accounting or Financial management function and/or preparing Financial
Statements required, or advanced training (Masters Degree and/or CPA) and 3+ years of
experience.
