The VP for Finance & Administration/CFO is the chief financial officer responsible for developing the university’s overall financial policies and setting the strategic direction of all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, insurance, tax, and treasury. The VP for Finance & Administration/CFO ensures that proper financial controls are in place and that financial transactions support the overall business strategy while conforming with applicable laws and regulations.
The VP for Finance & Administration/CFO is also the chief business officer responsible for exceptional leaders in: Human Resources, Information & Media Technology, Facilities Management, and Auxiliary Services. He or she is responsible for setting divisional strategy for areas within the span of care, defining vision and strategy while providing direction and focus. Executing multiple high-impact initiatives to achieve overall university goals, the VP for Finance & Administration/CFO is responsible for planning and directing all aspects of the university’s staff and service functions and ensures the operations of the university are within a secure, efficient, and organized work environment.
Required Education
- MBA and CPA preferred
- Higher Education experience in a private institution is desirable
- Must have competency in all finance functions
Required Experience
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in finance and operational management, preferably in higher education.
- Preferred experience overseeing administrative functions including Human Resources, Information & Media Technology, Facilities, and Auxiliary Services.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
Provide senior executive leadership for the following areas:
Finance
- Provide strategic management and overall financial leadership to the University.
- Management of the Business Office, including financial management and reporting, budget and forecast preparation and control, payroll oversight, purchasing, fiscal record management, tax compliance, and systems and processes related to the disbursement of funds.
- Plans, coordinates, and presents the annual university budget and ongoing forecasting, adjusting the direction to the University and updates throughout the year to the Board.
- Implements appropriate fiscal contingency planning and ensure the University is appropriately responsive to external changes and trends.
- Prepares long-range projections to manage a financial strategy.
- Ensures timely and accurate financial reporting: bond, city, county, state, and federal authorities.
- Develops policy and support systems for the management of university investments and financials.
- Member of the President's Cabinet and several operational committees as determined by the President.
- Superior aptitude for financial management, accounting, auditing and analytics; understands financial complexities and manages budgets on sound principles.
- Proficient in a wide variety of administrative and educational technologies commensurate with a $200 million enterprise.
- Administers all phases of the finance and budgeting of the University.
- Manages and reviews the investment of the endowment, trust, and other funds subject to the guidelines and limitations prescribed by the President and the Board of Trustees.
- Serves as the primary administrative resource for the Financial Affairs, Investment, Audit, and Strategic Oversight Committees of the Board of Trustees.
- Coordinates assigned corporate responsibilities on behalf of the President and the Board of Trustees.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the President and the Board of Trustees.
Human Resources
- Through a divisional leader, provides oversight of the HR function related to the university’s human capital, human resources operations, programs, and services, including but not limited to employee relations, talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, and learning and development. Supports the university’s mission and strategic plan in addition to ensuring excellent consultative, strategic, and operational services.
Information Media Technology (IMT)
- Through a divisional leader, provides oversight of the IMT function related to the university’s technology and information services including the vision and strategy of university technology platform.
Facilities Development and Management
- Through a divisional leader, provides oversight to facilities development and management, including maintenance operations, custodial, landscaping, transportation, construction and design, space planning, and asset management; owned and leased property.
Auxiliary Services
- Through a divisional leader, provides oversight to Auxiliary Services, including housing, dining/hospitality services, and the university bookstore. Provides management of the Auxiliary Services functions, including the Bon Appetit contract, setting housing and dining rates, and reviewing the profitability of Auxiliary Services.
Skills
- Proven effectiveness as a business partner with the President and President’s Cabinet as well as key university leaders, and the Board.
- Strong expertise in financial reporting and annual budget development and controls.
- Familiar with external and internal auditing principles and effective operational implementation.
- Experience developing multi-year budgeting processes with the flexibility to test various budgeting options.
- Demonstrates ability to develop and lead detailed financial analysis of various business strategies and options facing higher education.
- Ability to organize and present financial data in an effective format for various levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of and experience developing highly effective staff within Finance, Human Resources, Technology, Facilities, and Auxiliary Services.
- Demonstrates leadership in planning, organizing, and implementing motivational and team-building processes for financial functions.
- Effective writer with exceptional quantitative skills.

Compensation
- Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
