ASSISTANT DEAN FOR FINANCE , School of Science (SOS) , to serve as a senior leader in the areas of finance, sponsored research, and business services in collaboration with the school's associate dean and assistant deans. Will provide high-level counsel regarding finance and budget, faculty administration, research administration, and other business-related policy matters; oversee resource management and monitor annual spending of all funds; direct/manage the annual budget planning process, working with DLC heads and administrators; manage budget allocation and oversee the preparation and submission of school general budgets and fund and research volume forecasts; prepare financial and management analyses/studies/reports; establish metrics that measure and manage performance and present findings to senior management; maintain compliant fiscal and administrative practices; manage the under-recovery process; develop, recommend, and implement financial, operational, and administrative policies/practices; provide guidance and training on financial management, budget, research administration, etc.; ensure internal financial and management controls and adherence to applicable regulations; oversee/monitor sponsored research and gift administration; represent the dean in deliberations/negotiations related to research proposals/gifts/contracts/etc.; manage/control the allocation and use of the endowment funds and discretionary resources; and perform other duties as directed.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree; ten years' management experience in all aspects of university administration; excellent analytical, financial, and writing skills; advanced-level knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of accounting, budgeting, and sponsored research administration; working knowledge of principles/practices of strategic planning, development, and evaluation; strong organizational skills; good judgment and discretion with sensitive/confidential matters; ability to manage changing and conflicting priorities; and advanced-level knowledge of databases and spreadsheets. PREFERRED : M.A./M.S.; MIT experience; and knowledge of MIT's financial and research administration policies/procedures and operational systems. Job #20615-13
