The Deputy Director will develop and deliver a strategy to identify, prioritize, and meet information needs for program and operational staff related to financial operations. This will include providing leadership and managing the team's portfolio of projects, products and services, quality control and quality assurance, and governance processes.
This role manages resource allocation to various projects and directs work activities to include the below:
Business Operations – 60%
Planning, directing, and coordinating all global and subsidiary/affiliate consolidated accounting operational functions (general accounting functions under the record to report team, procure to pay team, and the global payroll operations).
Oversight of all financial data critical for accurate financial statement and tax reporting.
Oversight and responsible for assessing current accounting operational impacts from global, subsidiary/affiliate, and cross-department operational initiatives.
Ownership (responsible for design and implementation) of financial statement and tax return global and subsidiary/affiliate process controls. Ensure that controls are operating effectively and efficiently in support of core organizational objectives.
Responsible for evaluation of the effectiveness of accounting software and other applications/software that impact the financial operations of the foundation.
Devlop and monitor business performance metrics for financial operations teams.
Develop process improvements and enhancements based on understanding of business processes.
Responsible for business case design to address process recommendation and improvements.
Collaborate with global foundation, subsidiary, and affiliate leaders to understand the operational needs and in the development of initiatives to support the growth, vision, and to increase efficiencies and effectiveness in processes and capabilities.
Develop and maintain accounting/financial operation policies and procedures. Provide recommendations for changes and improvements.
Maintain the global chart of accounts and impacts to changes in the foundation and its subsidiaries and affiliates that would impact the chart of accounts and systems.
Lead process improvement, simplification, automation, re-engineering initiatives across GFAS team while working closely with other functional leaders.
Coordinate and lead cross-functional strategies/initiatives to ensure transparency and alignment between financial operations, broader global finance and accounting services team and all operations departments.
Management & Governance – 40%
Direct and lead a distributed team of 21 full time employees and 12+ contingent workers. Manage all financial operations outsourced vendors with locations in the United States, India, China, Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
Manage team, including coordination and handoffs with the partner team in GFAS including hiring the talent needed to achieve team goals, ensuring successful employee onboarding, communicating performance expectations, creating goal alignment, integrating project and change management, providing, and seeking feedback, providing coaching, measuring progress, and holding people accountable, supporting employee development, and recognizing achievement and lessons learned. Manage resource constraints and priorities across the GFAS team to support foundation projects and initiatives.
Work with leadership in owning and driving various strategic initiatives and projects.
Build collaborative and effective relationships with cross-operational, regional, subsidiary, and affiliate stakeholders.
Ensure that financial operations team makes appropriate strategic choices in onboarding, managing, and termination of outsourced vendors as the foundation evolves.

Education & Experience
Advanced degree in Finance/Business/Accounting with 10+ years of experience, or equivalent experience. CPA required.
