Our mission is to ‘igniteand sustain lifelong science and technology learning’. McDonnell Planetarium, the newly renovated digital Omnimax® Theater, Game XP for enthusiastic gamers of all ages, and our outdoor exhibit, GROW, which explores the science behind one of the most important parts of our life – food!
The Managing Director, Finance plans, directs and coordinates the preparation and analysis of the finances of the Saint Louis Science Center Subdistrict and Foundation, and maintains financial records, in compliance with accounting and internal control standards and government regulations. The Managing Director, Finance is also responsible for the annual budget and audit processes and for risk management insurance programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the activities of the Finance Department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports including internal and external monthly financial statements, and annual audits and annual budgets.
Provide leadership, training and daily supervision to department staff; promote a culture of teamwork and mutual support; monitor employee productivity, workload and morale.
Manage the payroll process and review and approve the payroll register for each pay cycle.
Oversee the accurate and timely management of Accounts Payable, purchasing process, petty cash, expense reports and cash control.
Prepare cash flow projections and monitor operating results and ongoing operating projections.
Responsible for grants, special projects and contract administration and compliance.
Ensure annual tax compliance; preparation and review of Form 990 and others as applicable.
Serve as staff liaison for the Audit Committee of the fiduciary board.
Assist in committee activities for the Finance Committee and the Investment Committee.
Manage department performance by providing leadership, setting goals, maintaining employee performance records, providing written evaluations and conducting ongoing feedback and coaching.
Accountable for preparation of financial reports including variances from budget or operating plans and explanation of such variances.
Perform reviews and analysis of financial performance for departments and projects as needed and identify ways to improve.
Establish and maintain systems, controls, policies and procedures to assure the integrity and accuracy of financial data and reports.
Perform special projects as designated by CFO and for on-going needs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's degree preferred.
Must have at least seven years of accounting and/or finance experience. Non-profit, governmental and/or grant accounting experience is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CPA certificate or license is preferred.
May be required to occasionally lift boxes of stored files, up to approximately 50 lbs. This job requires sitting for long periods of time using a computer/laptop.
