Assistant Vice President for Facilities Finance and Administrative Services

Princeton University, one of the nation’s leading research universities, is seeking a strategic partner and operational leader for its Facilities management organization. Reporting to the Vice President for Facilities, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Facilities Finance and Administrative Services will be responsible for overseeing the largest budget within the University, managing additional administrative, tactical, and strategic functions for Facilities, including: finance, budgeting, procurement, information technology, and materials management and supplies. With over 750 staff, Facilities is the largest organizational unit at Princeton University.
The AVP will play a critical role in providing strategic support services to the Office of Capital Projects, Engineering & Campus Energy, Office of Sustainability, and Facilities Operations. With a team of 45 the AVP will provide strategic oversight, management, and coordination of a $5.5 billion capital budget, will engage with a wide array of constituents inside and out of the University to ensure efficient utilization of resources, provide management of the complex operations of a diverse set of positions within the organization, and ensure process improvement efforts are a priority. The AVP will lead, identify, and implement process improvement initiatives, to include both human and system processes. The AVP will also manage and lead change efforts to coordinate moves among the many departments and multiple positions, coordinating the densification of offices to handle Facilities short-term growth needs and manage a space utilization study to develop strategies and options to meet the University’s growth needs.
Success in this important role will require ten to fifteen years’ experience in managing operating budgets and capital budgets; familiarity with all aspects of how to effectively support large-scale critical projects in a university setting; skills in leadership and communication that engage and motivate staff; experience in decision making and leading a diverse team with conflicting needs or requirements; demonstrated oral and written communication skills; and the ability to develop and maintain effective customer relationships with a team approach to project management. A demonstrated ability to understand complex matters, problem solve, and distill information for communication to a variety of audiences is required, as is the ability to exercise judgment and integrity in a highly collaborative environment. A master’s degree in business administration and previous experience working in higher education environment is preferred, but candidates from other backgrounds will be considered.
