Reporting to the Finance Manager for UCI's Center for Clinical Research, the Senior Clinical Research Finance Analyst will act as a lead and supervisor for the clinical research start-up unit. The incumbent will be responsible for oversight of startup processes to support an appropriate activation timeline of studies. Additionally, they will be responsible for budget negotiations and the review of study budgets with the team in order to ensure financial feasibility. The incumbent will be responsible for business process analysis and design, system or procedure testing and implementation, documentation, security, workflow, and customer feedback as it relates to the study activation process. As the lead and supervisor, incumbent will be responsible for the oversight of the team, training, performance management, and ensuring an effective and engaging work environment.
Provides effective project management to include the development, implementation and maintenance of financial processes within the clinical trial management system to secure appropriate billing and compliance of institutional revenue.
Identify upcoming center studies and facilitate the processing of necessary regulatory documentation associated with patient care costs, including budget development for UC Irvine Health goods and services, Medicare coverage analyses and assists with contract execution in a proactive and timely manner.
Focused outreach to faculty and staff to coordinate the production of restudy tasks across multiple ancillary departments affiliated with center research to secure adequate funding sources for services rendered in protocols.
Serve as expert consultation on institutional research processes and interpreter of local and national coverage determinations related to clinical trial treatment regimen and seeks NCCN guidance on clinical cancer care to effectively mirror trial care management decisions.
Serves to safeguard institutional revenues from potential penalties associated with inconsistent research practices (e.g., incomplete charge capture) and billing non-compliance. Works closely with PFS, PBG, CRB and Revenue Cycle to secure a defensible audit trail in research billing. Provides translation of current charge methodologies to research services within the charge description master.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
5-7 years of relevant experience.
Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments. Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner. Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to function as a member of a team. Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Experience in Clinical Research.
