The Senior Finance Analyst provides financial oversight of programs and units within the Birch Aquarium and Scripps Educational Alliances, which can be characterized by multiple fund types, complex self-supporting, and sponsored research activities. Responsibilities include accounting and reporting, general ledger reconciliation, and accounting policy development; computing and preparing data for journal entries, general ledger, and related financial statements; oversees all accounting functions, financial analysis and reporting, budget development and forecasting, contracts and grants, pre & post-awards, gifts/donations, general ledger reconciliation, fiscal close, and special projects. This position also functions as a resource and support for the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer on matters related to finance, fiscal controls, contracts, and grant submission/administration, performing analytic studies, and preparing financial reports as appropriate.
The Senior Finance Analyst is responsible for an accurate and timely month-end close; producing month-end financial reports and issuing them to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. The Senior Finacial Analyst is also responsible to assists in the adoption of new accounting standards including but not limited to researching standard, preparing written accounting policy for the company, and preparing new disclosures. The Senior Finacial Analyst will be asked to, assist with company cash flow analysis including but not limited to tracking cash flow activity, preparing reports, and analyzing information for management, support policy development, and offer advice regarding accounting and internal control issues, reporting needs, and policy review and changes. If necessary, assist with external and internal audits and performs other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.
The Senior Finance Analyst must work effectively with all department stakeholders as well as other department and administrative units. Actively participates in department and VC financial meetings. Provides high-level analysis of a variety of fiscal activities. Support the broader impact initiatives for the Director, Scripps Educational Alliances.

Three (3+) or more years of experience with fund based accounting in a university or related field.
Experience with federal and non-federal agency requirements and regulations for sponsored research from proposal preparation through close out, including but not limited to Cost Accounting Standards Uniform Guidance, Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP), etc.
Proven experience with analyzing complex financial issues, recognizing potential impact, identifying creative and alternative solutions, and making recommendations.
Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
