The Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation(“GDDF”) is a 68 year old family foundation, with offices in Chicago, IL and Charleston, SC. GDDF seeks to sustain and build resilient, vital, engaged and equitable communities in these two regions, by supporting conservation, arts and collections organizations. It is a progressive foundation that has been leading the way in grantmaking practices, mission related investments (which are part of the investment policy statement), developing deep partnerships with grantees, and a strong emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance and Administration (“DFA”) is the top financial and administrative position with responsibility for overall financial management, formulating financial policy and plans, investment oversight, human resources, information technology, facilities and other administrative responsibilities. The DFA executes the accounting, tax, financial analysis and reporting, budget, investment, insurance, audit, treasury and human resource functions. The DFA works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to support their fiduciary responsibilities. The DFA will be a trusted partner and resource to all members of the Foundation, including the Board of Directors. The DFA will be the principal liaison with banks, financial advisors, investment consultants, and auditors.
We seek a proven financial and operational strategist who has a successful track record of fiscal integrity as well as strong communication, interpersonal and management skills. The person we seek should embrace diversity and demonstrate a commitment to the goals and work of GDDF. The ideal candidate must be a multi-tasker with the ability to identify and leverage resources, identify fiscal and operational best practices and implement accordingly. This person will be able to roll up their sleeves and quickly toggle between oversight of routine accounting functions to high level investment strategy and everything in between. Previous experience and responsibility for investment management, budgets and forecasts, financial reporting, financial analysis, cash management and tax compliance required.
MBA or Master’s degree in Finance, economics or other business-related field required; CPA strongly desired. Nonprofit experience or demonstrated involvement in one or more of GDDF’s mission areas is a plus.
