Under the direction of the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for effective management of all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for the University. Responsibilities include the production of monthly financial statements, accurate and timely posting of financial transactions to the university’s general ledger, and coordination of the accounting systems procedures that ensure the timely and accurate recordkeeping for all transactions encompassing the university’s financial activities. The Assistant Controller will review and maintain proper internal controls over subledgers such as student receivables, payroll, and accounts payable. The position also oversees and reviews account reconciliations and ensures timely and appropriate resolution of reconciling items. The Assistant Controller supervises five staff.
This position requires a broad-based knowledge of all areas of accounting and financial reporting. Strong PC and business software skills are required. Excellent Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) skills are a necessity. The applicant must have strong business communication skills, excellent use of grammar and composition, and effective interpersonal skills as they will interact with faculty, staff and the University community. The Assistant Controller is also expected to be a problem solver and have the ability to streamline processes or move initiatives forward. Strong analytical skills and strict attention to detail are required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other business-related discipline;
5 or more years of professional accounting experience which includes: general ledger, cash management, fixed assets, accounts payable, payroll, and financial statement preparation, preferably in a higher education, not-for-profit or governmental environment;
3 or more years of full charge supervisory experience.
Licensure as an active Certified Public Accountant;
Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a Business-related field MBA;
Knowledge of GASB / FASB financial reporting requirements;
Knowledge of non-profit / governmental fund accounting;
Experience dealing with auditors and working on annual audits;
Experience with fixed assets and capital projects;
Experience with month-end closings and account reconciliations;
Experience with an ERP software system;
Experience with process improvements.
The salary range is $100,000 to $110,000 depending upon applicant’s experience. The University offers an excellent benefits package including tuition fee waivers for self and dependents.
