The Role: Reporter, Power Finance

Grade: 8 ( relevant for internal applicants only )

The Location: Charlottesville, VA or Virtual

The Team: You will work closely with a team of more than 300 editors and journalists around the world. We're the foremost provider of essential intelligence for the capital and commodities markets. This position is part of the Energy team, within the broader commodities group, which covers the oil and gas, power and utilities, and renewable sectors.

The Impact: Our real-time, subscription-based news service reaches an influential readership of investment bankers and managers, and energy industry professionals in the global business community.

What's in it for you:
  • The reporter in this role will be covering the energy transition at a granular level, digging deep into the investment decisions made by electric utilities as they reduce the share of power generated by fossil fuels and add renewable assets and battery storage to their portfolios, among other major issues.
  • To drive your reporting and tell this story in innovative ways, you'll have access to our massive database with comprehensive coverage of the market, regulatory, corporate and power plant data.
Responsibilities:
  • Cover power M&A, private equity activity and renewable energy investment
  • Cover competitive power markets and utility state-level regulatory activity
  • Write daily stories as well as features supported by data
  • Cover conference calls and interview company executives
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field.
  • Approximately 2 or more years of journalism experience.
  • Command of journalistic best practices (AP style, libel issues, etc.).
  • Must be able to juggle daily assignments and longer-term enterprise features.
  • Knowledge of finance, the power and utility industry or commodities markets an advantage.
  • Must have an affinity for analyzing numbers, using in-house data intelligence, financial reports and other industry information.
  • Fluency in English necessary.
Compensation/Benefits Information:
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $38,400 to $106,900. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive bonus/a sales commission plan.
