POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Vice President for Finance & Administration, the Director of Finance provides financial support to multiple Queens College business units. The successful candidate will oversee the revenue and expense activities, review and approve cash receipts, vendor invoices, payment requests and financial transactions in the general ledger system. He/she will serve as the Executive Director of a Non-Tax Levy unit and approve monthly bank reconciliation and general ledger inputs. The Director will liaise with Program Directors, and directors across various business units, as well as the College's Business Office, Budget Office, Procurement Office, Payroll Office, The Research Foundation of CUNY, The Queens College Foundation, CUNY Central Office and other external business partners to provide timely and accurate financial information.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, further duties and responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:

• Develop and establish the annual departmental budget for presentation to senior management
• Oversee the approvals of daily deposits, accounts payable and monthly journal entries
• Act as the Executive Officer for the Auxiliary Enterprise Corporation with the responsibility to sign contracts on behalf of the corporation
• Direct and implement the redesign of accounting procedures for variance college divisions
• Perform the month-end and year-end financial close for the divisions
• Analyze the efficiencies of various programs and make appropriate recommendation to enhance cost effectiveness
• Propose and conduct cash forecast analysis of revenue and expense to measure month end and year end projections to upper management
• Liaise with the offices of Accounting, Budget, Procurement, Payroll Offices, the Research Foundation, CUNY Central Office and other college academic divisions to provide needed financial information
• Coordinate with Information Technologist to oversee the content and information of the departmental website
• Oversee the maintenance and updating of coding tables and reports in the General Ledger System
• Approve instructor contracts in EPAF and faculty and staff timesheets in PR-Assist, HR-Assist and ADP payroll systems
• Prepare the annual division budget and manages the month-end and year-end financial close.
• Participate in Board of Director meetings for various college entities

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance from a US accredited college or university, and/or CPA
• Experience in a higher education setting
• Prior experience in accounting, fiscal reporting and/or financial analysis in a non-profit, government, and/or education industry
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and work experience with large complex general ledger system
• Strong understanding in the functionalities of CUNYFirst, Financial Edge General Ledger system, the Continuing Education Registration System and various sub-system that support the college's financial operation
• Ability to design and produce financial reports from various reporting systems
• Ability to read and analysis financial transactions and statements
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to lead a team and think outside the box during challenging situations

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Directs the budgeting function of a College or major program as well as related accounting operations.

• Formulates, prepares and oversees financial plans and budgeting processes
• Manages all financial reporting and compliance activities, including preparation of financial statements, statistical reports, and funding determinations
• Liaisons with internal and external financial auditors as well as various College, University and governmental representatives
• Oversees analytical reporting and provides strategic financial guidance to support decisions regarding resource allocations and operational planning
• Manages professional staff responsible for budget projections, allocations and transactions
• Performs related duties as assigned.
