The Hospital Finance Department at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Staff Assistant II/ Biller to join their team. The successful candidate will be accountable for, but not limited to the following: - Manage correspondence and inquiries from patients, providers, vendors, payors and staff. - Perform payment reconciliation and process payments. - Assist vendors with collection activities. - Follow up on denials to ensure timely reimbursement. - Review and process various departments to facilitate timely and accurate billing. - Retrieve billing data from other departments. - Communicate with payors when required. - Obtain all necessary demographics and data needed for billing. - Perform all other duties needed to facilitate physician billing and collection activities. (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION) QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: - Medical billing/coding certification or Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of three (3) years' physician billing experience. - Knowledge of physician billing, collections, reimbursement, payor requirements and Microsoft office. - Excellent communication and customer service skills. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. PREFERRED: - Experience in hospital-based physician billing. - Knowledge of Siemens Eagle.
