Mental Health America (MHA) is seeking a Finance and Operations Associate in Alexandria, VA to support various finance and administrative functions. No prior specialized knowledge is necessary to excel in this position.
Here’s who we’re looking for:
You’re the type of person who takes pride in your ability to juggle multiple tasks without losing track of deadlines. A task comes in and you figure out how to get it done without having to ask a lot of questions once settled in and trained. You’re known for thinking ahead and identifying issues before they pop up. When you say, “I’ll take care of it,” we know it’ll be done well and on time. And numbers just…make sense to you. Fast typing skills are a plus, too.
This position is ideal for an organized person who enjoys task-oriented work in a casual but fast-paced environment. While there are opportunities to contribute to MHA’s other work, this function is heavily administrative and involves significant data entry. This position will report to the Director of Finance and Operations.
A note: Although MHA staff are mostly working remotely due to COVID, this position is not eligible for full-time remote employment, as several duties require you to be in the office 1-2x per week. MHA adheres to all state and federal recommendations for maintaining or exceeding social distancing guidelines – you would be one of 2-3 people in the office on any given day for the immediate future.
Assist with month-end and year-end accounting entries – no formal accounting experience is necessary
Process check deposits, invoices, and other bookkeeping functions
Enter check deposits and other donations into Salesforce
Maintain general email and voicemail boxes for the organization, addressing constituents’ needs as appropriate
Provide general office support for Affiliate Services, updating contact information in Salesforce and elsewhere as needed
Take minutes for quarterly Board meetings
Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate:
Is inquisitive, takes initiative to understand things thoroughly, and proactively communicates questions
Is numbers-oriented and math-oriented
Is easily able to track and manage several long-term and short-term deadlines/tasks
Works (and learns) well independently and can problem solve on their own
Has strong time-management skills, is well-organized, and has strong attention to detail
Is a fast touch-typer
Takes direction well
Is comfortable with technology, working quickly and efficiently in Windows, Microsoft Excel, and online programs
Professional or personal experience with mental health and/or other chronic health conditions or disabilities is a plus. Prior experience with data entry or accounting can be a plus as well, but is not required.
If this job sounds like something you’d love to do, we definitely want to hear from you. Please get in touch by sending a cover letter/letter of interest and a resume to email@example.com. Please include “Finance and Operations Associate” somewhere in the subject. No phone calls please. EOE. Thanks!
Telecommuting is allowed.
Additional Salary Information: MHA has a strong benefits package, including health insurance, flexible work schedules, PTO, professional development funds, and a 401K match. The starting salary for this position is $45,000.
Internal Number: MHAN08312020
