The NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose goal is to promote and enhance cancer-relevant research and patient care at UC Irvine. The CFCCC provides research resources to its ~175 members engaged in research and offers multidisciplinary cancer care to its patients. The Sue and Ralph Stern Center for Cancer Clinical Trials and Research (Stern Center) within the CFCCC provides centralized services for protocol review, regulatory work, study management, coordination with internal and external partners on financial terms and arrangements, and oversees accounts receivable, financial projections and reporting on clinical studies. The incumbent is responsible for interfacing directly in a professional manner with CFCCC business partners in the pharmaceutical, medical device and clinical research organization (CRO) industries to administer the accounts receivable for a large clinical trial portfolio under the management of the CFCCC Stern Center for Cancer Clinical Trials and Research. The CFCCC Stern Center manages approximately 250+ active, or in-development, clinical trials. With this large and dynamic clinical trial portfolio, the CFCCC consistently maintains accounts receivable totaling >$6M for work performed and costs incurred. This individual must think critically, analyze highly complex documents such as medical records, clinical trial agreements (CTAs) and clinical trial protocols in order to resolve and respond to inquiries and requests for additional information. Must accurately maintain clinical trial financial statements and invoice logs; and provide financial data and reports on a routine and ad hoc basis.
Involves the processing and servicing of a variety of operational, personnel, and financial transactions and services. Includes cashiering, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, recharge billing, travel / entertainment, gift accounting, collections, data collection and data entry, analysis, review and control, customer servicing, and reporting.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures. Thorough knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems. Strong proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software. Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Ability to function effectively as a member of a team. Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Leadership skills to provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to professional and support staff. Experience with clinical trial agreements and clinical research billing principles Demonstrated understanding of the content and structure of a clinical protocol Demonstrated understanding of the protocol review and implementation process Demonstrated ability to facilitate the prompt close out of contracts by verifying the fulfillment of contract obligations and the submission of contract deliverables. As necessary, work with other central administrative units and extramural sponsors to resolve any outstanding contractual issues prior to close out
Experience working in a Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS), preferably Oncore Experience managing finances for oncology-specific trials
