The Finance Division at Carnegie Mellon University responsible for providing financial management, enterprise planning and stewardship in support of education, research, and strategic goals of the university. The payroll department supports the entire scope of pay operations for CMU, to include staff, faculty and students, international and domestic multi-state locations, and works in close collaboration with the human resources division.
We are searching for a Payroll Specialist to join the team. This is an excellent opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will provide critical support in processing payroll and performing related activities for the University's faculty, staff and students.
Core responsibilities will include:
Completing standard and off-cycle payroll runs, W-2 processing, garnishment maintenance, and treaty documentation for non-resident aliens;
Processing pay for one or more of the U.S., U.S. Expatriate and International (Qatar, Rwanda, Australia) payrolls;
Handling payroll processing and adjustment activities, including benefit, retirement, tuition and finance-related adjustments that require entry via payroll input;
Resolving case management tickets by facilitating resolutions to complex payroll inquiries;
Following-up on inquiries, performing research and analysis, and escalating issues to the appropriate team member as needed; and
Supporting system testing and data validation activities.

Bachelor's degree required; combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
One year of relevant payroll experience required; payroll experience for a medium to large non-profit and/or higher-education organization highly desired.
Experience with international payroll transaction processing, taxation and compliance regulations, and non-resident alien payroll highly desired.
Workday software experience preferred.
Proven knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including V-lookups and pivot tables highly desired.
