The Finance Department at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for a Senior Corporate Accountant. This is a professional level position that is responsible for the development, preparation and analysis of the annual and interim financial statements, including capital asset and debt activity, for West Virginia University Main Campus, West Virginia University Research Corporation and the regional campuses and the coordination of the external financial statement audit. This position is also directly responsible for monitoring the core general ledger module and related interfaces for the University, including its regional campuses, the WVU Research Corporation, and other off-site locations. This position is directly responsible for ensuring that the financial data generated by the financial systems complies with Federal and State Regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as established by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and University policy.
In order to be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will:
Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the various modules, from a functional perspective, and their integration within the overall financial and human resources administrative systems. This includes, but is not limited to, the general ledger, grants management, cash management, accounts receivable, budgeting, fixed assets, procurement, accounts payable, human resources and payroll.
Responsible for the management of the accounting setups and related customizations of the Oracle application and their integration with the General Ledger module. Directly impacts institutional policy in this role.
Maintain the core general ledger module that captures and reports comprehensive fiscal activity for the institution and its regional campuses. This is inclusive of the accounting for each of the University's modules and interfaces.
Troubleshoot and issue resolution related to the module as it relates to accounting and financial reporting. Requires significant decision-making capabilities and exercising of judgment. Must constantly consider the long-term effects of cost and efficiency of any action on or modifications to the system.
Administrate interfaces with the Human Resources and Payroll, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, and Grants Management modules. Must act immediately to prevent a chain reaction when issues arise within the system due to interdependencies of the modules.
Structure the system to support the requirements of external agencies, i.e. NACUBO, GASB, and AICPA. These requirements are continuously changing, and this position is responsible for the implementation of revised standards and requirements for compliance by the University in a timely manner. Noncompliance will result in a qualified audit opinion which could have critical financial implications for the University.
Manage the general ledger accounts structures and the accounting transactions that are fed to the general ledger from the other modules and interfaces.
Design, code and run reports from the financial system application using various reporting tools.

Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, finance or related field required.
Master's degree in related field is preferred
Certification as Public Accountant or Research Administrator is preferred
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in financial operations of a complex organization and experience with advanced financial systems software
Prior experience with Oracle financial software is desirable. Advanced graduate degree in Accounting and or Finance and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, Certified Treasury Professional, Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) will be considered when experience is less than five years.
