Reporting to the Executive Vice President, the Vice President of Finance and Treasurer (VP, Finance) is an integral member of the leadership team, working closely with the President, Provost, Board, and other leaders of the university to provide vision and leadership to ensure that financial management at Tufts is aligned with institutional priorities, resource availability and the changing dynamics within higher education. The Vice President will work with a talented Finance team to develop a mission and shared goals that emphasize data-driven decision support, collaboration, transparency and proactive communication. Tufts is committed to identifying and implementing best-practice financial services and practices. The Vice President, Finance and Treasurer will partner with administrative and academic leadership to identify approaches and develop policies and practices that ensure sound financial management and optimal allocation of resources. The Vice President, Finance and Treasurer will be a core member of the Tufts leadership team and will have primary responsibility for the financial health of the institution.
With a proactive, collaborative and thoughtful approach to people and organization, and with a strong financial stewardship, the Vice President, Finance and Treasurer will work with other members of the leadership team to establish robust financial plans and targets, actively monitor execution and financial results, and ensure appropriate actions and adjustments are made as needed. S/he will help improve and strengthen the Tufts' responsibility center management (RCM) model to ensure that a strong framework for financial accountability is maintained with each school and also at the overall university level. The Vice President, Finance and Treasurer also has primary responsibility for financial compliance and the register of financial risks within Tufts enterprise risk management program.
It will be important for the successful candidate to build strong relationships and trust at every level of the institution so that s/he can develop and shape the strategy, direction, policies, processes, and procedures that drive a strong finance function. The leadership team will rely on the Vice President, Finance and Treasurer to attract, retain, and motivate a team of highly talented finance professionals.
The Vice President, Finance and Treasurer at Tufts oversees a staff of nearly 100 full time staff and a program that integrates Financial Reporting, Budgeting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Financial Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Tax Management, Cost Analysis, Cash Management, Treasury Management, Procurement .
The VP, Finance must work closely with constituents across the university, and must be able to communicate effectively, build collegial relationships, and gain trust through expert work and clear management. The VP, Finance must also want to learn, understand, and impact Tufts' unique culture in positive ways.
The VP, Finance should create a culture of teamwork and collegiality across all units to foster good communication, respect, and provision of good service, while committing to the process of continuous improvement in the service to the college.
