Assistant Director or Director of Finance - (190000ZX)
The University of Maryland School of Social Work is seeking an Assistant Director or Director of Finance who has demonstrated progressively responsible leadership success in the financial arena, to include oversight of complex financial operations, budgeting and financial forecasting of sponsored and non-sponsored accounts. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Administration & Strategic Initiatives, the selected candidate will hold a high level of technical skill developing and leading financial and operational strategy. This position is responsible for managing the SSW overall budget, planning and reporting on financial issues, providing financial analysis and is responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant external and University policies related to financial business practices. This role requires a highly resourceful individual who is a sophisticated thinker with superior analytical skills, and who can build robust relationships with departments and have a deep understanding of their fiscal operations. The selected candidate's title will be determined based on their education and experience.

Assist in developing long- and short-term planning to meet business objectives and ensures long-and short- term assignments and projects are achieved.
Oversees financial operations to ensure the achievement of the school's strategic and financial objectives.
Develops and executes functional standards of operations, policies, procedures, processes and protocols to ensure compliant, effective and efficient operations.
Manage the finances for departments to support strategic initiatives which includes developing, monitoring, analyzing, forecasting and reporting on the overall school's annual budget along with unit specific annual budgets.
Identifies, develops and implements procedures/practices to ensure research administration goals and objectives are met while complying with University, Federal, State and Sponsor rules and regulations.
Conceptualizes, develops and provides ongoing training and education to SSW to increase institutional knowledge related to business development, philanthropic engagement, grants and contracts.
Oversees budgeting and financial reporting including tracking of all financial transactions, reporting transactions to external agencies, and providing detailed financial plans to the schools' leadership.
Oversees all financial transactions for revenue including annual audits and cash management. Manages assigned staff in the efficient and confidential processing of all financial transactions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Provide general direction and leadership for all financial and general aspects of departmental functions in order to maintain their efficient operation.
Partner with upper level administrators and other directors on a regular basis in setting strategic goals/objectives and develop and manage the school's budget. Foster improvements in policies/procedures for the entire department.
Provide analysis, interpretation, assumptions, projections and presentation of financial data.
Ensure efficient recruitment/interviewing and training functions to continually review strengths and weaknesses in maintaining a staff of well-trained, highly involved, and motivated employees.
Serves as a key strategic advisor and primary liaison to the Assistant Dean for Administration & Strategic Initiatives on all financial matters of the School of Social Work.
Streamlines chart of accounts to meet the needs of internal and external customers and various financial reporting requirements
Monitor cash and funding balances; prepare and organize financial statements; prepare quarterly and annual financial reports; manage the quarterly and annual budgets and forecasts.
Apply continuous improvement and learning methodologies to recommend/change procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness and prepare corrective actions plans for areas of responsibility
Performs other duties as assigned.
Assistant Director: Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or business related field required. A master's in business or related field is preferred and may be substituted for two years of experience. Five (5) years of accounting, budgeting, auditing, assessment of internal controls, or financial analysis experience with at least two (2) years in specialization budget and financial analysis required. Two (2) years of experience at a management/leadership level.
Director: Bachelors in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration or an equivalent field. Seven (7) years spent progressively building a background in the financial and business operations of a department or business unit. Five (5) years of experience at a management/leadership level. No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.
