Job Title: Director of Finance Department: Business Office Reports To: Head of School FLSA Status: Exempt Supervises: Accounting Manager Primary Responsibility Chandler School’s Director of Finance manages the school’s financial ability to support Chandler’s mission. The director of finance has the responsibility for providing consistent, accurate administration of all financial policies and procedures. The director of finance reports directly to the head of school and is a member of the administrative team. The director serves on Chandler’s Finance and Audit Committees. The director provides leadership and management of the school’s finances and is responsible for the supervision, coordination, and administration of all aspects of the business office including risk management and policy management. In partnership with the head of school, the director maintains relationships with banks, professional accountants, legal counsel, insurance companies, investment advisor, and other consultants. Functions of the job include but are not limited to the following: Primary Functions: - Serves as the chief financial officer and as an ex-officio member of the finance committee and audit committee.
- Prepares the school’s annual and multi-year budgets and cashflow projections by making decisions and demonstrating leadership that support the long term, strategic financial plan of Chandler School.
- Collaborates with the advancement department implementing controls and procedures to ensure that gifts are properly recorded and recognized.
- Oversees the reconciliation of all banking and investments accounts.
- Coordinates relationship with the school’s independent auditors and prepare financial records and documents needed for the annual audit and 990 tax return and respond to the management letter.
- Supervises the preparation of informational reports and make recommendations to the financial aid committee about financial aid awards to families.
- Supervises tuition billing and administration of the payment plan(s).
- Supervises business office personnel to ensure that all surveys are completed in a timely manner: DASL in NAIS and Cal-ISBOA
- Oversees accounts payables to ensure invoices are being paid in a timely manner and that they are being debited from the correct account.
- Works with outside investment adviser and the finance committee to manage the school’s endowment within the policy guidelines established by the board.
- Assists with special school related projects as requested.
- Personnel Management and Human Resources
- Assists the head of school with decisions regarding the salary and benefit package for school employees.
- Supervises the preparation of employment agreements and employee compensation and benefit letters for all employees. Create these documents when needed for any new hire.
- Serves as backup for payroll processing.
- Serves as an ex-officio member of the risk assessment committee.
- Administers and maintain appropriate levels of insurance; property, casualty and liability to protect the school.
- Oversees legal activities, including letters of agreement, contracts, leases, and other legal documents and agreements.
- Represents Chandler School at evening meetings of NBOA and Cal-ISBOA.
- Attends monthly finance committee meetings, board meetings and the annual board retreat.
- Supports the board appointed finance committee chair with agenda planning, material and annual tuition and budget recommendations to the board.
- Supervises staff in the business office.
- Maintains compliance with governmental regulations and changing regulatory environment by staying current on law and rules that may affect compliance.
