Position Summary Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance & Administration at the Earth Institute (EI), the Senior Grants & Finance Analyst will be responsible for management and oversight of the Grants and other sponsored activities. S/he will provide leadership and guidance on all sponsored projects. S/he will serve as Earth Institute Primary contact for Grant Management and Uniform Guidance and other post-award management matters with the University's central administration offices including Sponsored Project Administration, Sponsored Project Finance, Office of General Counsel, Columbia Technology Ventures, Office of the Controller and other central administration units.
Responsibilities Grant Management - 65% Serve as primary contact for Earth Institute with CU's Sponsored Project Administration (SPA), Sponsored Project Finance (SPF) and Research Policy & Indirect Costs (RPIC) groups. Work closely with Department Administrators on grant closeout reconciliations, including grant expenses, payables, and budgets. Provide principal investigators (PIs) and their administrators with post-award financial administration support, including financial status reports, invoicing details and project closeouts. Review notices of award, agreements, contracts, and MOUs to ensure consistency with proposal scope, mission, and policies of EI and CU. Coordinate sub award agreement issuance, execution and set-up in CU's financial system. Lead and coordinate award implementation meetings and monitoring (usually in conjunction with other EI Divisions). In charge of leading and coordinating internal and external audit inquires, working closely with University's internal auditors as well as with outside auditors to determine that expenditures and procedures were appropriate, allowable, and allocable to the award. Develop and deliver training materials to the EI community related to the post-award management of sponsored programs. Provide group as well as one-on-one training. Assist in annual budget preparation primarily on the sponsored project side. Facilitate Principal Investigator waiver request and review process. Grants & Finance Analyst will lead Uniform Guidance implementations across EI, including PI quarterly reviews, Effort Reporting and various sponsored project audits.
Additonal Responsibilities- 25% - Responsible for Salary distributions, cost transfers, journal entries and other accounting related functions.
Review and monitor major equipment purchases and maintain annual inventories and lists for the CU Risk Management Team and Capital Asset Accounting Team. Serve as primary contact for EIM with CU's Global Support team and International Safety and Travel Risk Management. Representing EIM on CU's International Administrative Working Group. - Overseeing The Earth Institute's contribution to the University Form 990 Schedule F (report of expenditures outside of the US, by country and type).
Communication and implementation of Travel Security Assessment and managing EI's SharePoint International Travel Approval Form. Assist in managing other non-sponsored programmatic budgets within the Institute.
Other duties - 10% - Complete as assigned by the by the Associate Director of Finance and Administration.

Other Requirements - Excellent interpersonal skills, including experience collaborating with a multi-disciplinary, diverse and driven team. Strong hands-on background in budgeting, planning, financial analysis and reporting, particularly in non-profit organizations with multiple funding streams including private and federal grants. Flexible self-starter who can multi-task with a high level of attention to detail. Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential information.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, macros, and formulas).
