Multnomah University Vice President for Finance & Administration
Reports To: President
Position is responsible for: Strategic financial management of the university, including leadership of the CFO Team comprised of the following departments: Business Office, Campus Support Services, Auxiliary Services, and Human Resources/Student Employment.
Mission: To exercise budgetary and administrative control over the financial, investment, and contractual matters of the institution. Primary Responsibilities: Institutional Responsibilities (20%) Objective: Support the institution and the president as a member of the senior administrative team.
Support Multnomah's mission, and annually sign the Doctrine, Values and Mission Statements.
Serve as Multnomah's Chief Financial Officer and Registered Agent.
Prepare annual budgets for all departments under oversight.
Meet with President and serve on President's Council, regularly attend weekly meetings.
Participate in institutional and departmental strategic planning, including planning retreats.
Submit annual evaluations of staff under supervision.
Serve on committees and complete special projects as requested by the President.
Represent Multnomah to outside constituencies as appropriate.
Financial Responsibilities (40%) Objective: Oversee the financial health of the institution, ensuring proper controls and policies are carried out, providing appropriate information to the president and board.
Supervise the preparation of the annual budget to be submitted to the President and the Finance Committee for approval by the entire Board of Trustees at the annual spring Board of Trustees meeting.
Oversee budget preparation by establishing and communicating clear process procedures and timelines.
Assist the Vice Presidents and other department directors in the annual budget-making process.
Ensure that Multnomah operates within its annual budget by:
ensuring accurate record-keeping and reporting in accordance with accepted accounting principles.
ensuring adequate controls to safeguard the assets of the institution.
monitoring the monthly distribution of funds.
maintaining the integrity of donor-restricted gifts to the institution.
recommending to the President any mid-year adjustments necessary to maintain a balanced budget.
Oversee the completion of an annual audit by a reputable outside auditor.
Supply the President, the Finance, Investment, and Audit Committee, and the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees with quarterly and annual financial reports within a reasonable time.
Furnish the board, faculty, and staff committees with financial information for informed decision-making.
Arrange annual meetings with the Finance Committee and investment fund managers, if requested.
Report regularly to the Finance Committee the status of the institution's invested funds and recommend strategies to the Finance Committee for institutional investment.
Ensure timely completion of annual reports (IRS, Dept of Justice, Dept of Ed, ATS, NWCCU, etc.).
Annually recommend new Tuition & Fees along with rental rates for dormitory and campus housing.
Provide necessary financial information for the completion of the annual strategic planning document.
Provide final review for the financial component of new program proposals.
Develop a template for systematic cost analysis of academic programs to evaluate cost of programs and faculty work-load ratios with vice presidents for the President or Finance Committee.
Serve as a staff resource for the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, working with the chair of the Finance Committee on the president's behalf to set meeting agenda.
Administrative Responsibilities (40%) Objective: Provide leadership and general oversight to the Business Office, Campus Support Services, Auxiliary Services, and Human Resources and provide financial input to other academic and administrative departments.
Supervise the Controller, ensuring best practices
Supervise the Executive Director of Operations, ensuring proper care and service campus wide for facilities, maintenance and grounds; both for employees and for students.
Supervise the Director of Auxiliary Services, ensuring the quality and service of all events.
Supervise the Director of Human Resources, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, equity with employee policies and benefits and service to all employees, including student employees.
Manage campus food service vendor and oversee the negotiation of contract with external vendors.
Act as the liaison with outside counsel for all legal matters related to the University.
Qualifications: Job-specific Requirements:
Earned bachelor's degree (BA or BS), preferably in business, economics, or public administration. Preference will be given to candidate's with a master's degree.
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Minimum five years of work experience in finance accounting. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in not-for-profit and/or education.
Proven administration, management, and administrative skills.

This is a full-time professional staff position with benefits including medical options, dental, vision, life insurance and disability benefits, also paid holidays, vacation accrual and sick time all beginning the first day of the month following one month of employment. A generous Employee Tuition Grant is available after 1 year of employment.
