Genomics Institute Organized Research Unit (GI ORU) in support of 9 core PIs and approximately 130 additional research, technical and administrative staff, students and postdocs, funded on approximately 40 awards. Reviews and guides others in the review of financial and administrative requirements of research contract and grant proposals, awards and transactions to ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor policies. Works independently to assess complex grant, contract and subcontract transactions where analysis requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors, and ensures that costs are reasonable, allowable, and allocable under cost principles. Maintains or oversees others in maintaining contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. Performs Tier 2 signature authorization on funds managed by the GI. Typically reviews and advises on highly complex proposals and awards such as grants/contracts which require task budgets, option years, multiple investigators and multiple sub awards. Communicates policy and analysis to GI constituents clearly and professionally. Researches, designs and provides annual and ad hoc financial reports for the Genomics Institute. Contributes to strategic direction of the GI's financial matters with other GI and campus leaders.
This position is a key part of an active administrative office supporting the scientific efforts of faculty of the UCSC Genomics Institute and its related projects and organizations, such as the UCSC Genome Browser, the Computational Genomics Laboratory, the Human Cell Atlas, the Braingineers, the Treehouse Childhood Cancer Initiative and the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3). It also supports the operations of the Genomics Institute which involves approximately 160 staff, postdoctoral scholars, and students participating in projects supported by funds from the federal and state governments, private gifts, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).
