The Director of Student Accounts is responsible for the overall operation and management of the Student Accounts Office. This position ensures the integrity, accuracy, confidentiality and maintenance of student financial records in compliance with all state and federal regulations. The Director is responsible for all student accounts; billing, day-to day operations and cash management, collection activities, refunds, and coordinating relationships with all student services and academic offices to ensure the highest level of customer service.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees, evaluates, and provides work direction to the Student Accounts staff. Responsible for the daily operations of student account processes including billings, finance charges, outsourced payment plans, electronic data transfers to and from 3rd parties and other departments, accuracy of the student accounts database, and compliance with government regulations.
Directs all aspects relating to student accounts receivables, including the Ellucian Student Accounts Receivable modules and CASHNet.
Ensures cashiering, student and third party billing, book voucher processing, external scholarship processing, 1098T reporting and student account reconciliations are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Oversees the refund process and ensures student refunds are accurate and timely and in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Develops and maintains policies and procedures relative to the day-to-day operations of the Student Accounts office to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and policies.
Oversees the collection on delinquent accounts, managing in-house collections and working with multiple collection agencies; representing the University in collection cases as necessary.
Keeps abreast of federal regulations relating to student financial aid disbursement, refunding, debt collection, tax reporting, payment processing, etc.
Provides financial counseling for students and parents regarding payment options and alternatives and payment plans with the authority to negotiate special arrangements.
Works with third party student health insurance company regarding website maintenance and online forms. Reconciles and ensures payment is sent to insurance company on time.

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration from an accredited higher education institution is required; Master's degree preferred.
A minimum of 3-5 years experience in a higher education institution working with student accounts receivable, tuition billing and collections.
Demonstrated working knowledge of Federal Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA), generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), not-for-profit/fund accounting, college or university accounting, federal regulations for Title IV funds (including Perkins and Health Professions loans), and collection and bankruptcy laws as they relate to student receivables (fees and loans).
Experience with an ERP system, preferably higher education software such as Ellucian Colleague.
Demonstrated ability to define programs, accurately manage, analyze and interpret data and develop solutions.
Advanced Microsoft Office Skills (Excel and Word).
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to support effective interaction with various levels of faculty, staff, students and other constituents.
Strong management and supervisory skills that include hiring, training, evaluating and developing staff.
Demonstrated high degree of ethics, integrity, honesty and respect for confidential information.
