As a key member of the Senior Management team, the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration/CFO will report to the Executive Vice President/CEO and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the AAFP. The Senior VP/CFO has primary strategic and day-to-day responsibility for the financial management and certain administration operations of the AAFP, including responsibility for the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets, report accurate financial results, development of the annual budget, and responsibility for property management and other administrative support functions.
Key responsibilities include:
Participates in key strategic and operational decisions as a member of the executive management team. Provides leadership on the executive team on financial and administration issues.
Develops financial and tax strategies for the AAFP; provides insight and information to the Board on all financial, tax and budgetary information. Works with the Commission on Finance and Insurance to determine appropriate investments.
Provides insight, guidance and advice to the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and other senior leadership on financial aspects of organizational operations.
Communicates financial situation of the AAFP to the Board of Directors, senior management and other levels of staff.
Attends and participates in meetings of the Board of Directors.
Demonstrates and models executive leadership consistent with the AAFP culture.
Works collaboratively with other divisions to achieve the AAFP’s mission.
Serves as subject matter expert to the Board of Directors and as Staff Executive to the Commission on Finance and Insurance. Represents the AAFP with AAFP Insurance Services, AAFP Chapters, AAFP Foundation, external auditors, tax preparers, financial regulators, banking relations and investment consultants and managers. Serves as a member of the AAFP Retirement Committee.
Provides overall supervision of the Finance and Accounting division
Provides oversight for the administrative support functions for the AAFP, including property and building management, digital printing/duplicating functions, mail services, and distribution and warehouse center functions.
Provides oversight of the accounting functions performed for the AAFP Foundation under an administrative services agreement.
Provides overall leadership and management to a total staff of approximately 32.
To be considered, applicants must possess a Master’s degree in a discipline directly related to the position or have achieved a CPA or similar certification. In addition, it is anticipated that the successful applicant will have a minimum of 10 years related experience. To be successful in this position, the incumbent must have strategic planning and execution skills; knowledge of contracting, negotiation and change management; and strong supervisory skills to supervise, coach and develop staff consistent with the culture of the AAFP. The role requires knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost principles, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems, and knowledge of federal and state financial and tax regulations and principles. The individual must have the ability to operate with a great deal of autonomy and make decisions subject to the oversight of the Executive Vice President/CEO. Effective written and verbal communication skills; previous management experience; high level visioning; leadership and interpersonal skills required with a collaborative work style. Non-profit experience important. Experience with government and other external contracts, grants and funding mechanisms preferred.
