Reporting to the Director, Capital Budget and working as part of the OMB team, the Financial Analyst assists in the development, monitoring, and review of the operating and capital budgets for the University.
This work includes preparing reports and materials for University committees; analyzing specific issues, budget requests, and policy changes. The analyst summarizes and interprets the results for financial officers. The analyst provides support to departments in their preparation of multi-year budget submissions, quarterly updates, including interpretation of University financial reports and other sources of relevant data such as personnel systems. The analyst utilizes University accounting system information and database and spreadsheet programs to verify the successful completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual capital and operating processes. The analyst monitors performance against budget; creates new financial report formats and tracking tools, and improves existing ones, to analyze, project and record financial results. He/she helps to resolve funding requests from departments and maintains records of budget allocations. Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in finance or accounting, plus a minimum of three years related experience required.
Advanced degree desirable. Experience with relational database software a plus.
Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and oral skills, and have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management. Strong computer proficiency (Microsoft Word and Excel) and a demonstrated ability to prepare reports, summaries and analyses, along with the ability to collect and analyze data and evaluate information, required.
