The New School has an ambitious agenda to expand its revenue-positive programming in the area of executive education and partnerships with corporations in a variety of areas, particularly strategic design management, organizational and structural design, and solution-oriented design thinking.
The finance manager for corporate partnerships will be the key financial point person for the partnership and executive education business. This is a new business line for the university and is in a growth mode. This position plays a critical role in ensuring oversight of the internal and project budgets. This person will look for ways we can improve and streamline our forecasting and assessment of opportunities. This person will also support evaluation and model creation for our licensing business.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast paced, data driven, and creative environment. The successful candidate will be a highly proactive creative thinker and will possess strong interpersonal skills to successfully liaise, negotiate, and collaborate with colleagues across all levels of the university and external partners while maintaining composure, discretion, and a client-centered focus. This position reports to the Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships.
Perform financial forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking
Analyze financial data and create financial models for decision support
Identifying improvements in our pricing approach and models
Report on financial performance and prepare for regular leadership reviews
Analyze past results, perform variance analysis, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvements
Work closely with the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting
Evaluate financial performance by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts
Provide analysis of trends and forecasts and recommend actions for optimization
Recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses; study proposed changes in methods and materials
Identify and drive process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, tools, and excel dashboards
Increase productivity by developing automated reporting/forecasting tools
Perform market research, data mining, business intelligence, and financial evaluation of opportunities
Maintain a strong financial analysis foundation creating forecasts and model
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is mentioned in virtually any financial analyst job description; familiarity with data query/data management tools is extremely helpful (Access, SQL, Business Objects)
BS required (Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics)
3+ years of business finance or other relevant experience
High proficiency in financial modeling techniques
Advanced knowledge in Excel with Formulas and functions
Strong analytical and data gathering skills
Good business acumen
Strong quantitative and analytical competency
Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
