This position is responsible for maintaining complete and accurate financial records, within the prescribed system of accounts, provide statistical financial reports, oversee budgetary processes, and ensure the Cooperative is in compliance with all state, federal, and applicable regulatory standards.
Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent.
Five years of experience in general or cost accounting.
5 years of applicable finance and accounting managerial experience at an electric membership cooperative, including working knowledge of RUS accounting procedures.
Maintains or oversees the complete financial accounting record system consisting of journals with original and final entries.
Preparation of Monthly accruals
Preparation of entries from journals to general ledger
Ensures the cash disbursement journal and cash receipts journal are maintained
Analyzes records of all balance sheet accounts
Prepares or assists in the preparation of the following reports and filings:
State and Federal monthly reports and forms.
Short and long term debt records.
Assist with inventory control as needed.
Monthly operating report.
RUS FORM 7 ? Annual Operating Report.
TVA Operating Report?Monthly and Annually.
Completes 990 form, as directed.
Completes audit report and notes, as directed.
Monthly Expense Analysis
Performs or oversees the following activities in accordance with the RUS Uniform System of Accounts:
Verifies all individual account subsidiaries balance with the General Ledger balances on a monthly basis.
Reconciles membership, deposit refund, and deceased patron's refund bank statements on a monthly basis.
Accurately maintains accounting information by department.
Assists in preparation of annual budget.
Loan fund accounting.
Assists in record retention program in accordance with REA guidelines.
Ability to serve as a leader and visionary within the department and when providing support to other departments.
Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
Ability to lead complex tasks/processes to a successful conclusion.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work and interact with others.
Proficiency with the use of accounting and reporting software systems.
Intuitive ability to learn new technologies and determine how best to utilize the same to gain efficiencies and decrease associated expenses.
Ability to learn the accounting requirements of the Rural Utilities Service, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Proficiency in accurate computations and proficiency in the use of accounting and reporting software systems, including Excel.
