The departments of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development (GCD) and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics (BMBB) clustered to form the BioGen Center. GCD and BMBB are joint departments with faculty and research staff having appointments in the Medical School and the College of Biological Sciences. Financial management of sponsored and non-sponsored accounts from post-award to close-out. This includes: financial reporting, budgeting, balancing, reconciliation, monitor and analysis, effort certification, maintain financial records, problem identification and resolution, financial transaction audit and financial transaction approval. Ensuring policy compliance with regards to funding agencies and U of MN policies and procedures.
45% Provide financial oversight, analysis and management of sponsored and non-sponsored data. Prepare financial reports and present data to faculty and/or management. Forecast budgets and expenses. Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. Effort coordinator. Document approval.
25% Create consolidated financial statements. Report both standard and customized monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for management and principal investigators to meet goals and objectives. Provide information to help in the decision making process.
10% Audit and approve financial purchasing and adjusting transactions on all projects assigned to accounting team. Provide departmental staff information on expenditure requirements and policy. Coordinate quarterly effort certification process. Work with faculty to resolve discrepancies and ensure timeliness of reporting.
10% Manages Chart of Accounts by activating revenue/expense on chart strings and setting up combo codes for payroll. Assists department administration with annual budget preparation and entry for all assigned divisions.
10% Other - These could include ISO cost accounting, or other duties as needed to manage the accounting function in the dept. Year-end budgeting and input. Research discrepancies in accounting data which includes preparing for internal and external audits and analyzing a variety of fiscal data from multiple departments and/or colleges. Maintains the integrity of accounting systems and the chart of accounts; establishes new accounts, deletes obsolete accounts. Help w/special projects/events with project leaders, financial staff and outside agencies.

Required Qualifications: -Requires BA/BS with at least four years of experience. A combination of education and experience may be substituted for degree to total eight years. -Experience to include financial analysis, creating and maintaining finance reports, and budgeting. -Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. -Strong organizational and customer service oriented skills, strong communication skills with both financial and managerial staff. -Attention to detail -Ability to work independently -Experience with federal granting agencies to include budgeting, pre and post award.
