There is an opening for a Director of Financeand Operations at The Oakwood School for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a full-time, 12-month position that begins on July 1, 2019. The Director of Finance and Operations oversees all financial aspects involved with the operation and maintenance of economic growth and sustainability for The Oakwood School. They serve as a member of The Oakwood School Administrative Team and report directly to the Head of School in fulfilling all duties.
Primary Responsibilities (but not limited to):
Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with members of the school community.
Supervising all personnel working in the Business Office and related areas of the school’s operations.
Participating in the development of school strategy, providing recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the process.
Preparing and managing an operating budget, with input from key administrators and department chairs to ensure expenses are managed efficiently and budget goals are met.
Preparing and presenting accurate, timely, and clear financial reports.
Directing or assisting with contract negotiations on behalf of The Oakwood School.
Serving as a liaison to the Board’s Resource Committee, Facilities Subcommittee, and Audit Committee, and assisting the Head of School in preparing and providing such other information and reports for use by the Board and its committees as the Head of School may direct.
Ensuring that necessary and efficient systems, processes, and controls are in place to carry out all financial functions of the school.
Collaborating on efforts in risk management and ensuring that appropriate levels of insurance are maintained.
Developing and maintaining cash management practices and strategies.
Managing debt issuance and continuing debt compliance.
Overseeing all fiscal reporting activities for the School, including financial audits and legal and regulatory compliance.
Ensuring that human resources policies and practices are clearly articulated, consistently applied, and conform to legal requirements.
Keeping abreast of evolving educational legislation and communicating with administrative colleagues regarding changes.
Informing the Head of School in a timely manner about the status of all outstanding work.
Bachelor’s degree (MA/MBA preferred) in Accounting, Business, Management, or Finance;
At least 8-10 years of professional experience in financial management and accounting;
Extensive background and experience in - Accounting - Financial and budget analysis - Institutional planning and forecasting - Data collection and management - Human resource management - Contract negotiations - Capital projects
Experience in an independent school or other non-profit setting is preferred;
Verbal skills and positive personality to handle contacts with trustees and trustee committees, professional colleagues, and any other individuals who come in contact or have business with the Business Office;
An understanding of and ability to track evolving legislation related to school operations;
The ability to serve as a financial advisor, providing the Head of School with information and feedback that will enhance the ability to achieve school-wide goals;
A team player, willing to work with the administrative team for the common goals of the school;
The ability to maintain a positive working climate for Business Office employees with clear communication and performance expectations;
The ability to uphold the extreme nature of confidentiality of the work of the Business Office.
