UW Medicine (UWM) Finance has an outstanding opportunity for a Productivity Analyst. The primary purpose of this role is to manage/reduce operating costs and improve labor productivity for UW Medicine hospitals. The goal is to ensure the long-term profitability of the UW Medicine System by working with hospital executives, directors and managers; providing department level and facility wide benchmarking performance comparisons and analyzing the key strategies to drive productive operations. This position reports to the Manager of UW Medicine Productivity Analytics and is directly responsible and accountable for the following areas:Develops and manages the timely, accurate submittal of Operational Benchmarks including report dissemination to UW Medicine executives and hospital management. UW Medicine currently utilizes Vizient's Operational Data Base, facilitated through IBM ActionOI.Assists UW Medicine operational directors and managers with analytical insights and benchmarking results interpretation. This includes coordinating and participating in fact finding phone calls with peer institutions to identify best practices. Collaborate with UW leaders to share best practices and help them understand how to apply these best practices to UW Medicine operations.Works with targeted departments to improve data content and streamline quarterly submissions.Develops reports in collaboration with management to support the organization at the hospital and departmental level.Collaborates with Vizient and Vizient peer groups to improve and enhance UW Medicine's data submissions. Participate in focus groups, task forces, bi-weekly conference calls, web conferences and regional user group meetings.Performs financial analysis for UW Medicine to support optimal decision-making and cost management. Analyzes monthly financial and budget reports to assist management in identifying variances. Works with departments to determine causes of variances, develops and implements plans to remedy as appropriate.Works with Finance Team and hospital departments to develop and assist with implementation plans to reduce and manage costs.Participates in annual operating budget development and provides analytical support for annual budget and interim reports as needed. Collaborates with Budget Directors to analyze financial performance and provides results to Finance Management.Benchmarks UW Medicine hospitals relative to comparable peer hospitals and identifies opportunities. Collaborates with management to develop sustainable strategies for improving performance.Prepares and files external financial reports for UW Medicine hospitals. Reporting includes, but not limited to: Washington State Department of Health, Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems, American Hospital Association, America's Essential Hospitals and Washington State Hospital Association. Educates self through industry readings, conferences and other forums on critical financial and healthcare trends. Analyzes data, identifies potential implications and provides recommendations for UW Medicine. Provides other financial analysis as required.REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or business and at least five years of experience in financial and operational analysis. Healthcare experience required. Progressively more finance experience preferred, specifically in financial planning, analysis and resource optimization. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.Required Competencies – Job Specific:Ability to prepare complex financial analysis and interpretations with high degree of accuracy.Proven analytical, verbal and written communications skills, including effectively communicating with all levels of management.Ability to utilize numerous computer applications – spreadsheets, databases, data visualization tools and report writers.Ability to analyze data, interpret financial information and formulate actionable recommendations.Ability to work independently with a minimum level of supervision.DESIRED:MBA/MHA/CMA/CPA preferred, Familiarity with Financial Systems including General ledger, Payroll and Patient Billing systems. Experience with hospital workload units. For example: HCPCS/CPT codes, MS DRGs, APCs, census data.Experience with forecasting, predictive analysis, statistics, business intelligence tools and relational databases.
