Reporting to the CEO, the VP Accounting & Finance is responsible for all aspects of accounting and tax compliance. In addition, the VP will support operations manager, project managers and senior management in meeting revenue, cost and profitability goals; lead the process and prepare forecasts and budgets; manage cash and working capital, equipment leasing, credit facilities, banking relationships and insurance; and support the CEO in growth initiatives.
Revenues of the firm are ~$100 million and growing. There is a currently an accounting staff of 7.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of accounting: payroll, accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable and collections, project cost accounting, revenue recognition, general ledger, financial statements, and analyses.
Maintain documented system of accounting policies and operations, and maintain effective internal controls.
Prepare monthly and annual job cost and financial reports, and analyses, and facilitate project manager and management reviews.
Facilitate and prepare annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
Advise on decision-making regarding capital investments, pricing, contract negotiations, significant costs, and other matters with project managers, management and CEO.
Manage cash and working capital, and prepare short term forecasts to do so. Manage surety bonds and retention collection.
Manage size and use of credit facilities and banking relationships. Source new debt capital as the company grows. Manage equipment leasing.
Support through analysis, diligence, financing, etc. the company’s growth initiatives.
Manage the company’s property and casualty insurance program with the assistance of an outside broker.
Comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting, working with an outside CPA.
Additional duties as needed.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license preferred
Previous experience as a hands-on Controller, VP Accounting and Finance, or CFO of a construction or similar company, where project costing is critical
Proven management skills
Proficiency with accounting, project accounting, Office and other software
Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
This is a hands-on role, with the ability to step back and contribute at a big picture level
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
Attention to detail
Excellent time management skills / ability to prioritize and deliver planned results in a fast paced and dynamic environment
Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members
