The Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology (MIC) at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a Senior Finance Generalist position. The Department of MIC is an energetic, robust, and exciting basic science department in the School of Medicine with a multi-million dollar portfolio of NIH, federal, foundation, and industrial grants, as well as large intramural department funds. The Senior Finance Generalist will provide the Administrative Director, Department Chair, and faculty with account budgeting, financial reporting, reconciliations, post-award grant administration, analysis, projections, and the management of day-to-day accounting activities for the department. This is a key position in the department, which requires collaboration and excellent communication with department faculty and staff, the Deanâ™s Office, other University departments and centers, the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), Accounts Payable, and other University organizations. The incumbent must be aware of and follow University and sponsor guidelines and policies for the different types of accounts and follow basic accounting principles. MIC provides an outstanding working environment, and fosters an efficient, yet highly collegial and friendly environment to work, learn, and collaborate with various colleagues in the Department.
A bachelorâ™s degree in accounting, finance or business, with at least five years of financial and accounting experience is preferred, however, the degree requirement can be waived if direct applicable experience of six years or more in grant and university accounting may be demonstrated. Applicants must be highly organized and have excellent analytical and numerical ability, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to record and report financial and budget data clearly and accurately, set and adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines, and work with new University initiatives. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in higher education financial and/or grant post-award administration experience, and have used UBI, recon@uva, researchUVA, expenseUVA, and/or Oracle labor scheduling programs.
