Department Information:

Indiana University Northwest seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position of Director of Finance and Planning (DFP). This position will work directly with the Dean and Associate Dean to provide oversight of financial operations associated with the College of Arts and Sciences. The DFP also will work closely with the Dean and Associate Dean to oversee, manage and advise on all issues associated with planning and reports. Examples of planning include, but are not limited to, project management, development of department assessment protocols, planning/ management of budgets, grant oversight and management, and development of annual reports.

Job Summary:

The primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • The DFP will develop policies and processes that will be used to oversee finances within and external to the administrative unit
  • The DFP will provide financial oversight, information and counseling to departments- chairs, faculty, and clerical staff.
  • The DFP will be the primary conduit between the college and external units (e.g., campus CFO, university budget office, bursar, government agencies) on all aspects associated with finances. The DFP will develop policies and processes, when needed, to address questions and requests that arise from external units.
  • The DFP will have oversight of the faculty grants (internal and external). In particular, the DFP will work with faculty to make sure they are in compliance with the rules and regulations as set forth by the IU and the granting agencies and will oversee expenses and monitor indirect costs.
  • The DFP will work with the Dean and Associate Dean(s) on analysis of data for the use of policy development. Analysis will primarily include but is not restricted to financial data, credit hour production, manpower assignment and personnel expenditures. The DFP will gather data and information as well as work, as necessary, with all faculty and staff personnel in the college to assemble the annual report.
  • The DFP will work with the Administration on various planning and directing tasks central to the operation of the college to include but not limited to project management, planning administrative budgets, writing position descriptions/hiring staff, budget hearings and continuous quality improvement.
  • The DFP will advise and direct policies and processes associated with the use of enterprise software for the operations of the college. It is important the DFP be forward thinking towards the use of technology in a modern academic environment.

    Required Qualifications:

    Minimum Education/Experience:
    Bachelor’s degree required. Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

    Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
    At least two years of experience working with budgets, grants, and/or projects within an academic environment required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Master’s degree preferred.
