The University of Texas at Austin is currently looking for a Deputy Director for Finance – GlobalEngagement. This role will manage and direct the financial and business operations for the Global Engagement portfolio, overseeing and providing leadership for financial and budgetary planning, payments, procurement, and human resource transactions. Develop and streamline business processes in accordance with applicable regulations/procedures.Serves as an integral member of the strategic leadership team.
Oversee and evaluate financial activities, including budget reporting and forecasting, accounting, account reconciliations, purchasing, payables, and cash management in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
Assist with income projections and management of endowed and grant accounts. Monitor and maintain accurate and up-to-date budgets and accounts for appropriated funds, endowments, gifts, grants, and revenue.
Develop operational, financial, and statistical reports, both regular and one-time in nature, from various data sources using a variety of advanced data processing and analysis techniques.
Integrate appropriate financial and non-financial data into consolidated reports to aid management decisions at all levels of the portfolio.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial and budget reports for the Senior Vice Provost as well as unit Directors and the Provost’s Office, as applicable.
Coordinate with the Provost’s Office on the development of the five-year plan for the Global Engagement portfolio.
Supervise, train, evaluate, and provide guidance to finance and HR staff in units reporting to the Global Engagement portfolio.
Ensure proper training of staff and compliance for all business operations and that human resources practices, principles, and ideologies are in alignment with the organizational effectiveness goals of the Senior Vice Provost for Global Engagement and the University.
Monitor processes for appropriate internal controls, assess operational processes and make recommendations for improvements, and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures, state and federal laws and regulations.
Review and approve invoices, purchasing, reimbursements, and journal entries and ensures the timely and accurate processing of all financial transactions and HR documents.
Conduct and participate in special projects, as assigned. Use independent judgment, knowledge of University procedures, and resourcefulness to develop and implement detailed project plans. Operate with a high degree of autonomy and establish strategic direction for multiple functions.
Master's degree in business administration, accounting, finance or similar field. Twelve years of business management, professional level accounting, and/or financial experience at a large organization to include at least three years of supervisory experience.
Progressively responsible experience in planning, forecasting, financial analysis and report production. Budget management experience.
General human resources experience or knowledge.
Superb interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability to problem solve and research financial inquiries.
Experience dealing with confidential information and ability to keep information confidential.
Ability to share information with others and help build a team atmosphere.
Effectively prioritize and perform multiple tasks.
Proficiency with Excel.
Proven ability to show initiative and strong work ethic. Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, be tactful, and diplomatic.
Experience managing and identifying complex and fragmented processes and building in controls to minimize errors and promote efficiency and consistency while ensuring compliance with established policies.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Previous experience with financial administration at the University of Texas at Austin, including interaction with the university’s administrative applications such as Workday/HRMS, FRMS, DEFINE and budgeting activities.
Experience with COGNOS, report writing packages, and business intelligence tools.
