FINANCE AND OPERATIONS MANAGER , Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) , to support finance and operations for J-PAL's Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) Africa program whose goal is to improve learning outcomes in Africa. Will be responsible for all aspects of grant management; awarding sub-awards to outside organizations; coordinating services from MIT (contracting, hiring staff/consultants/ contractors, procurement, invoicing and payments, etc.); and informing and advising senior leadership on TaRL Africa's financial position and progress with its organizational development. May contribute to other J-PAL programs as needed.
J-PAL plays a key role in helping affiliated professors conduct field research in dozens of countries around the world to help improve the effectiveness of social programs. Its staff help translate this research into actionable poverty alleviation policies around the world and build the capacity of researchers and policymakers to use evidence in decision-making. Staff connect the dots between economics and policy and are passionate about working with organizations to inform development policy.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree (MBA, MPA, or MA preferred) in a relevant field; at least five years' program management experience; strong administrative and financial skills; experience managing international programs from a U.S. base (including managing and monitoring funds for international awards) and operational experience working abroad; proven success reaching and exceeding measurable targets; meticulous attention to detail; and ability to adhere to deadlines and follow through. Seek an international program manager who is accepting of change, comfortable with ambiguity, and who thrives in an intense and fast-paced work environment.
