Principal Accountant - International Finance-2011273
The Finance Division provides financial management, enterprise planning and stewardship in support of education, research, and strategic goals of Carnegie Mellon. Our mission is to provide university partners with the tools and resources needed to be well-informed leaders and effective decision makers. As part of the Controller's Office, International Finance provides financial and operational support for potential and university established international initiatives. We work closely with key partners to support CMU's mission and objectives while handling global compliance with the highest regard for international, federal, state and local laws and regulations.
We are seeking a Principal International Finance Accountant to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with the oversight and management of various financial and operational activities, as well as the accuracy, timeliness, and general integrity of the departmental accounting function in a multicurrency environment.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Lead highly complex accounting tasks and projects providing specialized and ad-hoc analysis in various accounting functions such as: accounts receivable, accounts payable, cost accounting, payroll, etc.
Develop, recommend and/or modify major policies and procedures of new and existing international sites and facilitation of communication thereon; assist in making decisions around new international initiative requirements to be followed by university staff in order to align with applicable legal and labor requirements.
Identify areas for improvement, develop plans and assist in the implementation of those changes for the audit program in an effort of continuous improvement.
Administration of various activities such as: monthly/quarterly/annual GL close processes and monthly/quarterly/annual reconciliations/analyses and annual financial statement audits and agreed-upon procedures.
Coordination and communication with various departments and operational units involved to support international campuses and programs.
Administration of tax services for expatriate employees which includes coordination with third party tax services provider as well as CMU Payroll.
Assist with the completion of the annual financial statement audits and agreed-upon procedures required by the University's international contracts and agreements.
Specialized and ad-hoc analyses and other projects/duties to support the department (as assigned).

You should demonstrate:
Proven leadership and supervision of staff, balancing day-to-day work with special projects;

Experience with international tax regulations and concepts of tax protection and equalization so as to assist with administering this benefit to our expatriate employees.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or finance required; MBA or other advanced degree in accounting, finance or business administration highly desired.
Minimum seven years of relevant experience in audit, financial analysis, financial reporting, or accounting required.
CPA license highly desired.
