Princeton University seeks an accomplished financial management executive with expertise in both strategy and operations to serve as Vice President, Finance and Treasurer. The Vice President is the Chief Financial Officer of the University, is a valued participant in strategic conversations about the University's view, and leads the delivery of financial stewardship, analysis and operations for the University.
The Vice President oversees the Office of Finance and Treasury, whose mission is to efficiently and effectively steward the University's financial resources, and to provide guidance and support for other administrative and academic departments' financial management activity. The organization—a team of approximately 140 staff—also has an important role in ensuring compliance with both internal and external financial regulation and policies. To meet these responsibilities, Finance and Treasury focuses on long-term financial planning in support of the University's academic mission and aspirations, as well as on facilitating efficient and compliant day-to-day financial business.
Finance and Treasury is organized to support the University's strategic initiatives:

• Costing, Analysis, and Policy
• Finance Technology
• Financial Services
• Cash and Investment Services
• Office of the Controller
• Organizational Effectiveness & Communication
• Planning, Budget, and Analysis
• Risk Management
The Vice President reports directly to the President and collaborates closely with his senior leadership team, including in particular the Provost (the University's chief academic and budget officer), the Executive Vice President (the University's chief operating officer), and the President of the Princeton University Investment Company (PRINCO). The Vice President is a key member of the core decision-making group convened by the President to advance the University's strategic priorities. The Vice President is an engaged, visible leader across campus and serves in a number of leadership roles, including as a member of the President's Cabinet; the Priorities Committee, the Council of the Princeton University Community (CPUC) Resources Committee; the Facilities Planning Group; and the Fundraising Priorities Committee.
Finally, the Vice President serves as Secretary to the University Trustees' Finance Committee, and serves as an ex officio member PRINCO Board.
The new Vice President will join Princeton where the role of universities, globally, is in a state of evolution, both as a place where new generations of students can access resources, but also as a place where scholars and faculty can contribute to society undergoing rapid technological and demographic change.

Princeton has dedicated significant effort and resources to modernize finance and treasury systems and processes over the past decade. While developing additional applied systems and refining processes will naturally be necessary, the University's investment now allows the new Vice President to focus on leveraging the value of the recently modernized systems and on broader University priorities and ensuring a strong financial underpinning to realize those ambitions. The Vice President will lead a team that provides thefinancial tools and framework to implement the University's strategic initiatives (including significant capital development and fundraising goals) and enhance departmental financial planning and budgeting.
These goals are achieved by working in close consultation with senior members of the President's Cabinet and the Provost's Office; key units across campus (including facilities, IT and advancement); and in partnership with the Board of Trustees' Finance Committee.
The Vice President will also continue to build a strong and enduring finance and treasury function, developing exceptional talent from a wide range of backgrounds and groups within the Office, so as to ensure Princeton continues to leverage sophisticated, mission-oriented financial expertise in the conceptualization and implementation of its strategic priorities.
Beyond the University campus, the Vice President has important opportunities to demonstrate leadership and speak - on behalf of Princeton and higher education more broadly - on a national stage about issues related to higher education finance, access and affordability.

The Vice President will demonstrate the agility to transition from high-level strategy projects to detailed, financial line items in order to translate the institution's aspirations into budgets and financial management systems.
The ideal candidate will be a proven, strategic business partner committed to a strict code of ethics and a standard of excellence.
At least ten years of progressively responsible financial management experience required.
Experience in a research-intensive academic institution is an asset, but is not required. An advanced degree is strongly preferred.
