The mission of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is to advance the public's health through learning, discovery and communication. To pursue the mission, the school produces knowledge through research then translates this knowledge into evidence that can be communicated to the public, policymakers, and practitioners to advance the health of populations.
The Office of Research Administration supports the school's mission by serving as a central resource for the research community through the provision of expertise and leadership in obtaining and managing research funds. It acts as the institutional representative of the President and Fellows of Harvard College for the administration of sponsored projects for the school. The Office of Research Administration is comprised of research administrators that work in partnership with faculty to review and submit proposals for funding and to ensure that proposals and then awards conform and are managed according to sponsor guidelines and University policies.
The Financial Associate will support innovative research at the world's leading public health research institution. Areas of research are focused across nine academic departments which include Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Genetics & Complex Diseases, Global Health & Population, Health Policy & Management, Immunology & Infectious Disease, Nutrition and Social Behavioural Sciences. The Financial Associate will work primarly with one academic department but will have an opportunity to be exposed to research happening across the school.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist with the preparation of basic proposals (ex.postdoctoral fellowship applications)
Support post award activities including processing accounts receivables and accounts payables transactions (ex. vendor payments, invoices, journal entries, credit memos, corporate card reconciliations, and reimbursements).
Work closely with colleagues on post award activities such as training grant appointments and terminations, and fund reconciliations for one academic department
Work directly with Harvard's vendors and financial staff to process financial transactions
Other duties as assigned

3+ years of related experience; a combination of education and experience may be considered
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
Strong comfort with Excel and prior experience working with word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases preferred
High level of initiative and motivation; Experience being proactive, friendly, and confident in dealing with faculty and staff; Excellent communication skills; Works independently with minimal supervision and use judgement regarding confidential or sensitive information; Personal interest in supporting high level intellectual work of academic professionals; Appreciates the importance of the role of basic science in improving the lives of individuals and populations are all preferred.
