The Director of Financial Services, under general direction, directs, leads, plans, and supervises the day-to-day activities of tax compliance and reporting for financial management operations. Initiates and implements new processes for greater efficiencies to ensure accurate reporting. Assesses, evaluates, monitors, and develops internal controls and training related to accounting processes.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ten years of accounting management/administration experience, including a minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Public Accountant
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of Workday HCM.
Directs and supervises preparation, review, and submission of monthly, quarterly and annual federal, state and local payroll tax documents and tax deposits, including but not limited to W-2, W-2, W-2C/W-3C, 941, 941-X and state and local income tax. Directs and supervises compliance with tax treaties and non-resident alien tax reporting (1042-S), student tax reporting (1098-T and 1098-E) and vendor tax reporting (1099). Services provided to Texas A&M University and Texas A&M University at Galveston, as well as our shared services customers: Texas A&M University System Offices, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Texas A&M University-Central Texas, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Tarleton State University, West Texas A&M University, Prairie View A&M University and Texas A&M International University.
Plans and develops operational procedures, initiates process change and recommends policy changes in tax related areas. Serves as the tax expert for all individual taxation and Unrelated Business Income taxation issues at Texas A&M University. Provide tax guidance to Workday programmers, as needed. Assist with review and preparation of TAMU Rules and Standard Administrative Procedures and serve as Ellucian/COMPASS student information system 1098-T implementation subject matter expert.
Directs and supervises gathering and compilation of information from Texas A&M University departments for Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) reporting and subsequent submission to Texas A&M University System Offices. Monitors contracts sent by Contracts and Grants for potential UBIT reporting. Monitors campus compliance for unrelated business income.
Directs the Tax Compliance and Reporting unit, including: Directs and leads on strategic and short-term unit planning; Develops unit budget for incorporation into overall department budget; Supervises four full-time staff and indirectly supervises two full-time staff and student workers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
