The Director of Finance directs all accounting functions of the BSU Alumni & Foundation, maintaining financial records and fiscal controls for the organization. This person oversees the processing of contributions to and disbursements from 400+ individual funds, as well oversees the management of over $29 M in assets. In addition, this position is responsible for summarizing, analyzing and reporting the financial activities of the Alumni & Foundation to internal and external audiences, including the annual audit and financial statement preparation, in addition to multiple other reports. The Director of Finance provides coordination with offices at Bemidji State University for all policies, procedures and programs that have an effect on the financial operation of the Alumni & Foundation.
3 years of professional accounting experience. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field may substitute for one year of experience. An Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field may substitute for six months of experience.
1 year of supervisory or lead work experience.
Accounting principles and practices.
Appropriation, budgetary, and accounting systems.
Fiscal analysis methods.
Federal government accounting, auditing, and reporting requirements.
Prepare and interpret complex fiscal records and reports, recognize problems, and effect solutions.
Relate accounting to overall functions of the department.
Write and speak effectively.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, public, and other employees.
5+ years of accounting experience
Experience and knowledge of higher education fundraising and non-profit organizations
Experience and interest in working with diverse cultures and populations
