Advertised Summary Job Description: Columbia University Medical Center is seeking a finance professional for its Facilities Management Finance Team.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the chosen candidate will assist with processing budget transactions in Columbia's financial system; compiling reports and reconciliations while adhering to deadlines; and entering data, reviewing results, and processing corrective entries for the department's budget portfolio that is comprised of nearly fifty different business lines.
Assignments for this position are subject to rapid change of priorities. The environment is fast-paced and assignments include handling large volumes of data. Reports and reconciliations are done on repetitive basis in both ad-hoc and pre-determined intervals --including but not limited to daily, weekly, bi-monthly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reviews.
The successful candidate is detail-oriented, brings professional, positive, and can-do demeanor to the work environment, and has strong analytical, critical-thinking, and follow-up abilities. The successful candidate is able to finalize repetitive tasks by pre-determined deadlines as well as quickly responding to ad hoc requests and reviews.
General Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).
Ability to determine priorities, exercise initiative and consistently complete tasks under pressure and with minimal errors.
Willingness and ability to learn new software programs as well as Columbia's financial, budgeting, reporting, human resources, and payroll systems, including rules, policies, and work-flows, and apply them consistently.
Ability to maintain data and reports. Ability to learn and retain knowledge of various business lines in the department.
Professional interpersonal and communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Degree or major in accounting is preferred.
Work experience in an accounting department, background in handling large volumes of data, evidence of successfully performing tasks requiring repetitive reviews and reports, and experience in producing various reports based on the same data as suitable to different levels --from staff and line managers to AVP and VP-- are desired.
Experience working with Columbia University financial or personnel systems is a plus.
