Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Vice Chancellor for Finance (VCF) for Rutgers University – New Brunswick. This position serves as a leader and change agent for financial management and planning for RU-NB. The successful candidate will be a dynamic thought leader who communicates effectively, works collaboratively, develops and implements best practices, and cultivates strong professionals throughout the organization. The VCF serves as the chief business officer for RU-NB, reporting to the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration (EVPFA) and to the Chancellor of RU-NB. This position directs and facilitates financial strategy, management, and planning for all units within RU-NB and aligns these with University goals and objectives as defined by the EVPFA. The VCF is responsible for the effective implementation and use of university administrative information systems by RU-NB units and for the coordination of collaborative efforts between RU-NB and other Chancellor units, in particular RBHS, and with Central Administration.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Develops a strategic vision and accompanying initiatives and policies to ensure RU-NB's fiscal health, supporting the Chancellor for internal and external financial matters through policy and business management.
Recommends strategies to the Chancellor, to ensure RU-NB financial well-being and administrative efficiency and effectiveness.
Responsible for the comprehensive and unit-specific financial reporting processes for RU-NB in concert with the University Budget Office.
Supports the schools, centers, and other units in providing timely and accurate reporting to the respective deans, the Chancellor, the EVPFA, the President, and other key stakeholders.
Presents RU-NB financial reports and plans to the Committee on Finance and Facilities for the Board of Governors.
Manages an ongoing program of process and organizational improvements within the accounting and finance functions of the campus.
Evaluates the performance of the Deans and Chancellor's leadership team regarding the overall fiscal management of their units, providing input to the Chancellor.
Acts as a member of the Business Leadership Team of University Finance and Administration and sits on the University's Budget Committee.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance; or related field is required.
A minimum of ten (10 ) years of experience in financial and/or administrative management in a large and complex research university or academic health center.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with responsibility center management in a complex academic environment preferred.
Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities, including ability to plan and manage change.
Experience building and managing an effective team in a complex organization, while advocating and leading change initiatives.
Knowledge of and demonstrated success in developing and implementing finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles and in administering business planning and assessment for programs and initiatives.
A proven track record of working collaboratively across all levels of an institution to implement change.
Outstanding human relations and leadership skills and the ability to function in a team environment.
Skilled decision-maker, with transparency in decision-making and management.
Experience in using budgets as a tool for implementing policy.
Experience examining programmatic budgets in detail in order to ensure maximum efficiency and revenue diversification.
An ability to use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data.
Unquestioned integrity and trustworthiness.
An MBA or Master's in Accounting, Finance; or related field is preferred.
