Sugar Bowl Ski Team & Academy (SBSTA) seeks a Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) to immediately join its Leadership Team and oversee all strategic and tactical aspects of SBSTA’s business operations. Sugar Bowl Ski Team & Academy is a community dedicated to providing passionate skiers the opportunity to pursue athletic dreams, academic excellence and personal growth while celebrating grit, grace and courage. Sugar Bowl Academy is an independent day and boarding school for competitive skiers in grades 8-12, serving 80 full-time students. Sugar Bowl Ski Team is a development program for 425 young skiers, ages 4-16. SBSTA is situated at Sugar Bowl Resort on the top of Donner Summit in the Lake Tahoe area, with an average annual snowfall of 450 inches. Candidates should be adaptable to a changing environment and excited to work in an alpine setting.
The DFO is responsible for the supervision, coordination and administration of all aspects of SBSTA’s finance operation, including strategic finance, accounting and audit, legal entity and tax status, operations and facilities, risk management and insurance, transportation, and human resources. As a member of the Leadership Team and reporting to the Executive Director, the DFO works closely with faculty, staff, members of the administrative team, as well as the Finance and Audit committees of the Board of Trustees.
SBSTA is a high touch, customer-focused organization. As such, the successful candidate will need to skillfully deal with participants and stakeholders representing a wide spectrum of ages and interests. The DFO will be a strong team player who is equally comfortable in a strategic capacity, management role and/or hands on individual contributor. Initiative, perseverance and creativity coupled with a results oriented can-do attitude are a must.
Education, Skills and Qualifications:
5+ years successful track record in finance and operations
3 to 5 years of management experience culminating in leadership responsibilities
BA/BS degree, preferably in Business or Finance
CPA or CMA - nice to have
Proficient with Quickbooks or other accounting software.
Proficient with technology platforms, including G-Suite, MS Office applications, CRM and HR systems
Experience with non profit, academic or sports institutions preferred
General understanding of IT issues relative to small business venture
