The Budget Office The mission of the Budget Office is to provide professional analytical and resource management expertise that support campus decision-making and effective management of campus resources. The Budget Office serves the campus current and long range planning efforts associated with the campus operating and capital budgets by providing accurate, timely, and meaningful analysis of budget and financial information. Additionally the office develops and implements policies and procedures for the effective management of campus financial resources.
The Position Under general direction, the incumbent provides analysis and recommendations to upper-level decision makers on a variety of complex, campus-wide issues, focusing on the resource needs of academic and/or administrative units throughout the campus. The incumbent performs significant complex and technical analyses, including identifying trends; producing income and expense projections; developing alternate allocation models; collecting relevant data from multiple sources to conduct analysis. Prepares materials to assist upper-level management in reaching decisions about resources; writes a variety of documents; provides consultative services to units, and is a liaison with UCOP staff. The position requires an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of budget/finance concepts, principles, policies, and practices. The incumbent must have strong critical thinking skills, analytical skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills. The incumbent must also develop a keen understanding of the nuances impacting the units for which they have been assigned analytical responsibility. These include but are not limited to: instruction, research, student aid, enrollment, student affairs, capital development, environmental factors, staffing dynamics, assessments.
