The Dalton School seeks a full-time Director of Finance / Controller. This position will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer, and provide oversight of the School’s financial reporting, accounting and budgeting, cash management and payroll.
Organize, manage and direct the Business Office.
Establish policies, procedures, standards and strategies for areas of responsibility and provides adequate internal control capabilities and strengths to safeguard the school’s assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Coordinate with the Chief Financial Officer in the financial planning for the School, including the preparation of the annual budgets and long-term financial projections.
Develop and manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly and yearly financial statements.
Act as liaison between the School and CPA firm; along with overseeing, coordinating and preparing work papers for the annual review.
Work with the School’s CPA firm, oversees and prepares information required for the IRS Form 990 and Form 5500 tax returns.
Attend Audit, Finance, Investment and Pension Plan Committee meetings.
Review and authorize all checks and check requests submitted and invoice payments.
Supervise the preparation of annual surveys, compliance reports, and information requests for financial data.
Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger and the data supporting the financial statements of the School.
Monitor and track donor-restricted funds to ensure they are spent in accordance with the donor’s purpose.
Maintain bank relationships and provide daily monitoring of cash balances in various bank accounts.
Fulfill all other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required
Four-year college degree, an MBA or CPA preferred, or related experience.
Four to eight years of managerial level accounting/financial business management experience, preferably in an academic environment.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles required.
Excellent communications, interpersonal, organizational, leadership, management, and supervisory skills.
Ability to use and knowledge of accounting software systems, data retrieval, report preparation, word processing and spreadsheet programs.
Independent and self-motivated with the ability to manage stressful situations, schedules and deadlines.
Contribute positively to employee morale; maintains a positive, pleasant demeanor to all constituencies; provides positive encouragement to students.
